/u/bboomslang on What 2019 comma Der deck to buy
I got myself the UR artifact deck and it’s quite fun and was easy to power up for me with my existing collection. Of course this depends on how wide your card collection already is, but getting better duals (Fetch+Shock+ a few non-tapped duals) is the main investment. Maybe a few big eldrazi or golems to pump the top-end and a few more solid mana rocks or Thopter producers, but that’s mostly it. And even if you keep the base deck and play it, it should do quite well already. It’s plans are astonishingly solid for a precon.
Edit: it’s not at all competetive, though, just to make sure it’s explicitely said, because we are in the cEDH reddit. But I think it could at least be made viable, because essentially Saheeli is Tron in your command zone and we know how big-mana strategies can go broken in other constructed formats.
Saheeli’s Blue Moon
https://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/saheelis-blue-moon/?cb=1534343231
Stax in the form of Saheeli the gifted from Commander 2018. Saheeli let’s you play around the most brutal hate pieces, like:
- Static orb
- Winter Orb
- Back to Basics
- Stasis
Her 2nd +1 ability reduces the cost of your next spell by the number of artifacts you control, which in a stax environment seems pretty broken. Most of your mana will be produced by artifacts. With the inclusion of Paradox engine & Winding clock, skipping your untap step or untapping two permanents a turn becomes irrelevant pretty quickly.
Win conditions consist of your opponents conceding, various isochron sceptor combos, or walking ballista.
I built this deck because stax does very well in my meta, but a game will quickly turn into arch enemy when you make people feel miserable. Any feedback is welcomed.

Introduction
Mizzix Storm is a deck that chains spells and abuse the cast trigger of Mizzix of the Izmagnus. Tutoring or getting to the win conditions thru draws and digs are the ways of Izzet to compensate for the tutors offered by decks that have black in it. The deck also has a lot of ways to win without Mizzix in play. This deck runs closest to JVP High Tide with pros and cons to be considered.

———————————————————————————————————————————————————————————
Combos and Synergies
- Isochron Scepter imprinting Dramatic Reversal + mana rocks that could produce three (3) or more mana = infinite mana + infinite storm
- Isochron Scepter imprinting Dramatic Reversal + High Tide + Candelabra of Tawnos + Islands = infinite mana + infinite storm
- Isochron Scepter imprinting Dramatic Reversal + Sensei’s Divining Top + mana rocks that could produce two (2) or more mana = high draw + high storm
- Isochron Scepter imprinting Brainstorm + Paradox Engine + mana rocks that could produce two (2) or more mana = high amount of storm + draw your deck
- Isochron Scepter imprinting Lightning Bolt + Paradox Engine + mana rocks that could produce two (2) or more mana = infinite damage + infinite storm
- Reiterate w/ Buyback + Turnabout + lands or artifacts that could produce at least five (5) mana + four (4) experience counters = infinite mana + infinite storm
- Reiterate w/ Buyback + Reality Spasm + lands or artifacts that could produce more that what you can pay + four (4) experience counters = infinite mana + infinite storm
———————————————————————————————————————————————————————————
Main Win Lines:
- Dramatic Scepter Lines (refer to Combos and Synergies)
- Intuition Lines
NOTE: Mizzix should have two (2) experience counters for the line to be most efficient. Also, the line most likely you’ll run is the Intuition line where you were given the Enter the Infinite. It is the wisest choice and it would make you consume the most mana. Your opponent would only give you the other two if they have graveyard interactions like Faerie Macabre or Silent Gravestone.
Mana to be spent (in the full line) with Mizzix in play:
(0) experience counter: 5UURR or 5URRR
(1) experience counter: 3UURR or 3URRR
(2) experience counters: 1UURR or 1URRR
Mana to be spent (in the full line) without Mizzix in play: 11UURR or 11URRR
Tutor for Enter the Infinite + Mizzix’s Mastery + Past in Flames
———————————————————————————————————————————————————————————
If opponent gives you:
- Cast Past in Flames using Flashback.
- Recast Intuition tutoring for Frantic Search + Wheel of Fortune + Windfall
- Cast anything your opponent gives to you to discard Enter the Infinite.
- Cast Mizzix’s Mastery targetting Enter the Infinite.
- Cast Past in Flames.
- Cast Mizzix’s Mastery targetting Enter the Infinite.
- Cast Mizzix’s Mastery targetting Enter the Infinite.
———————————————————————————————————————————————————————————
When Enter the Infinite resolves, it is almost impossible for you to lose. These are the modes to choose from to win when it resolves.
- Casting Isochron Scepter imprinting Dramatic Reversal to create a huge amount of storm count and mana then cast Aetherflux Reservoir then drop any spell to gain a huge amount of life which you can use to shoot your opponents to death.
- Casting Isochron Scepter imprinting Dramatic Reversal to create a huge amount of storm count and mana then cast Paradox Engine. Cast Capsize or Winds of Rebuke to bounce the Isochron Scepter. Recast Isochron Scepter imprinting Lightning Bolt to shoot down your opponents to death.
- Casting Isochron Scepter imprinting Dramatic Reversal to create a huge amount of storm count and mana then cast Stroke of Genius for a huge number of X, holding priority, cast Reiterate to copy it as many times as you can to make your opponents draw their decks out and lose.
———————————————————————————————————————————————————————————
Alternate Lines:
- Use Intuition to tutor for Whir of Invention + Transmute Artifact + Fabricate if you want to go for an artifact combo finish with either Isochron Scepter and/or Paradox Engine. You can also tutor Aetherflux Reservoir if you have both the Scepter and Paradox in hand or in play.
- Storm with Mind’s Desire to get win conditions
- Reiterate w/ Buyback + Turnabout / Reality Spasm to generate infinite storm and infinite mana for Aetherflux Reservoir / Stroke of Genius
- Reiterate w/ Buyback + Turnabout / Reality Spasm to generate infinite storm and infinite mana then cast Lightning Bolt, holding priority, cast Reiterate w/ Buyback targetting Lightning Bolt to create as many copies until you are satisfied.
Make sure to hold counter spells to protect combos. If something went awry, reset.

Ben Friedman on UB Shadow
I hadn’t seen this linked to the subreddit yet (entirely possible I missed it though, if so my bad), so I figured I’d share Ben Friedman’s takes on UB Shadow going forward.
More specficically, I’d like to ask people what they though of his take on “dualless” Shadow being entirely reasonable as a way to be better vs the Moon/Wasteland decks of the format, along with Wasteland not being key to the strategy. To me at least, these are super important because they leave the deck being far, far cheaper to build than any other fair blue deck.

/u/bboomslang on I came to Commander looking for something different. Instead, I found more of the same.
It most definitely is. Don’t expect durdling and anything else than “there is my opponent, kill him fast and hard” in 1v1. There is no real social aspect to 1v1 and so anything but streamlined decks will just plain fail. This makes decks converge towards typical set of staples in their colors. There will be variations, but when I play just one opponent, why should I opt for a weird wincon that might work, if I have a solid wincon that definitely will work?
Best commander for playing alone?
Just that. Which do you think is the best commander for playing alone, against the wall? I have some ideas but I really would love to read your thoughts on this topic. Now I’m going to keep writing nonsense because one of those stupid rules about a required number of words or something like that. I didn’t even read the whole explanation about why this post was removed. Are you happy now, stupid bot?
