Right before the giant massacre of 4 big wars in 1775. The Americans were one province behind, but that was just temporary, they could get back two and remove control on one other, so I’m the end win with a solid lead of 2 provinces. Great game, even though it ended on the first possible time, at the end of round 3. Lots of fun with 4 players!

/u/bboomslang on Game of the Week: The Golden Ages

I played it a few times with my wife and it is fun, but for some reason it never flowed smoothly, it allways felt a bit klunky, which in the end probably was what stopped us from playing. I actually like the art style, it wasn’t the looks, it is just that we have many more civ style games with more actual variety to play nowadays, so it is hard to argue for it when talking about what to play. Still a good game and it does what it claims, providing a civ building experience (allthough a very euro-y one) in two hours play time.

/u/bboomslang on Anyone else, only play pauper?

Not only, but I don’t get to play that often and when I do, I usually play Pauper. Got a coworker into Pauper, so we can play some matches on fridays. I love that I have the full breadth of magic available, Pauper to me feels kinda like “cheap-ass vintage” with the range of available cards. Lots of fun. The only other format that from time to time gets some play is EDH.

/u/bboomslang on GB threshold – help wanted

[[Golgari Brownscale]] could add some graveyard-filling combined with life gain, which could be a good thing for you. Or [[Gnaw to the bone]]. At least when I played my GB deck, I noticed that without any lifegain, I was just pummeled out of the game before I actually got anything going – especially since your only flyers are ones that can’t block when you have threshhold, which means that things like flipped Delver or the flyers from Kuldotha Boros just go over you. Even Golgari decks can’t rise from the dead when the player is dead 😉

What makes kuldotha boros good?

Hey everyone im considering making this deck online. Ive played it in paper and was wondering why it is so good. Also what are the good/bad matchups that i should watch out for. Also i have a simple question is turn one glint hawk good as well as turn one kuldotha rebirth?

January 18 Pauper Power Rankings (Kaladesh 2, Week 9)

One week to go! Next Wednesday Aether Revolt hits the digital shelves and we will start our next season. This one has been a wild ride. Let’s see what came out on top this week:

  1. Delver; 14.29%

  2. Hexproof; 12.86%

  3. Murasa Tron; 11.43%

  4. Affinity; 10%

  5. Dimir Flicker; 8.57%

  6. Stompy; 8.57%

  7. Kuldotha Tokens; 5.71%

  8. Elves; 4.29%

  9. Burn; 4.29%

No other archetype tallied more than 3% of the undefeated metagame; Sample size of 70

So Delver is back on top after a few weeks vacation. The most surprising deck on this list, to me anyway, is Hexproof. The deck is capable of some very strong draws but hardly is a dominant deck. Let’s examine some factors that may explain its rise:

  • No Chainer’s Edict deck: The only deck above that runs any number of Edicts regularly is Dimir Flicker and that deck often has to spend the early turns setting up its mana and filtering to its lock. Once Hexproof is online it can be tough to stop.

  • Lots of aggro: The top decks this week lean aggressive which makes a card like Armadillo Cloak absolutely backbreaking. Resolving the Invasion Aura can change the tenor of the game instantly and can put Hexproof into overdrive.

So what should you be thinking about going into the final week? Stopping singular threats seems a decent game plan so load up on Edicts and ways to fight them. Eldrazi Skyspawner and Undying Evil both seem like solid inclusions, depending on your deck. Nest Invader and Young Wolf are already good cards but don’t laugh at Myr Sire either.

If you want to beat the decks that beat the Edict decks, go for Kuldotha Tokens. It’s combination of tokens and reach make it a solid option fir an open metagame. I’d just pack copies of Leave no Trace if I were you.

Kaladesh Take 2 Season Rankings (605 total decks)

  1. Delver; 12.56%

  2. Kuldotha Tokens; 9.26%

  3. Affinity; 9.09%

  4. Stompy; 9.09%

  5. Murasa Tron; 5.95% (+1)

  6. Dimir Flicker; 5.62% (-1)

  7. Izzet Control; 4.96% (-2)

  8. Hexproof; 4.79% (NR)

  9. Tron; 4.63% (-1)

  10. Burn, 4.13% (-1)

Dropped from Top 10: Elves

While the book on Kaladesh isn’t closed we can start drawing some conclusions about this season. First is that the best red card is Galvanic Blast. Without it Kuldotha Tokens would be a shell of itself and Affinity, while still great, would suffer somewhat. The other element to note is the rise of Archaeomancer/Mnemonic Wall. Decks that can utilize either of these alongside Pulse or Murasa or Ghostly Flicker can build a massive advantage. Finally we are seeing the core of Faerie Miscreant, Spellstutter Sprite, and Ninja of the Deep Hours emerge as the core of Delver. It is not that Delver of Secrets is bad (far from it), but that triumvirate is powerful enough to carry multiple archetypes.
