Play to Win Gameplay (Flash is banned Kinnan is here to stay)
Flash is banned. Kinnan is back. Weโre gonna see how the newcomer stacks up against some stax. Blood Pod – We thought kinnan might be a little fragile so putting it up against some strong stax with some new cards might work. https://tappedout.net/mtg-d…

Pinger Decks and how useful they actually are
Hi!
I’ve recently started redesigning some of my super budget decks that are just for my friend group where we really don’t plan to do much investment and just have “kitchen” Table esque fun. But sometimes I also like playing online with slightly more powerful decks.
While doing that redesign, I found that I really liked Syr Carah for the Red Deck. But not as just a spell slinger deck, but as a Pinger Deck. It’s full of cards that tap to do 1 or more damage to a player or creature. Which sure, its not a lot. But it does wonders against Token Decks and when combined with Gorgons head and Flair, it’s a Tap-Kill a Creature.
Now with Ikoria, we also have Deathtouch and Lifelink Counters etc. and even have Mutate for added shenanigans for those Pingers. I feel like yes, they don’t do a lot, other than being a convoluted Creature removal. But they also have something interesting where its not just about combat, but being careful with your resources.
Insatiable Hemophage and Cubwarden are some such creatures you may want to mutate ontop.
Porcuparrot is also a new Pinger making use of Mutations ( Gimmicky, as heck )
With the Commander 2020 release we also have a Mardu Pinger now ( and I know that even blue has Pingers) with Kelsien, the Plague. Giving us access to 3 Colours, among them, good removal, good methods of card advantage, and different varieties of Pingers.
So here’s my question for the discussion for you guys. What do you think about Pingers? Are they horrible? are they hidden op? (lol) or what comes to mind in terms of weird combos for them?

/u/bboomslang on What Cedh/Edh decks do you play and why?
I’ve played quite a lot of Jhoira, Weatherlight Captain, because it combines the things I love about magic: artifacts, combos, and stormy decks going off big time. That is why some of my alternative decks are Teshar (also cedh) and Emry (casual high power).
I am currently building a edh high power Nicol Bolas, the Ravager list, because Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker was one of my first paper cards I got – when I got the Ajani vs Bolas duel deck. So even though old Nicky B won’t be in there (and his first creature version neither), at least some of his newer incarnations will show up. So yep, sentimental attachment right there.
And I run two goblin decks now in casual edh (RB Grenzo and RG Grumgully), because goblins.
/u/bboomslang on Is there a "perfect" set of three cards for Emergent Ultimatum?
the if’s are just the three choices they can make and the demonstration that each one leads to a hulk trigger. One of them – the third – is the most situational (and I’d say the only correct choice for your opponent) that needs some board state to operate on. And that board state is nothing unusual – have your commander out and in a green deck, have one mana dork. Or any creature that dies to one -1/-1 counter. And all the pieces actually make sense, as you can win by assembling them manually, too. So yeah, it is actually a working thing, if you ignore the 7 CMC big-ass-complicated-mana sorcery you need to go off ๐
Edit: don’t put Pattern on opponents creatures though, please ๐ (I am dumb, reading the card explains the card)
/u/bboomslang on Is there a "perfect" set of three cards for Emergent Ultimatum?
Can we assume some board state? Because if we can assume a mana dork, this could work with [[Volrath, the shapestealer]] as commander and him out in the field during pre-combat main phase.
Your pile is [[Pattern of Rebirth]], [[Viscera Seer]] and [[Protean Hulk]].
- If they give you the seer and the hulk, they straight up lose to your hulk pile, as you just sac Hulk to your Seer.
- If they give you Seer and Rebirth, you put the Rebirth on your mana dork, sac it to your seer and grab hulk, sac that to your seer and win.
- If they give you Hulk and Rebirth, you put the Rebirth on your mana dork, go to combat and put a -1/-1 on your mana dork to get Seer into play and sac the Hulk to your Seer and again win.
Hulk pile is [[Spellseeker]], [[Thassa’s Oracle]] and [[Blood Pet]]. Seeker grabs your [[Demonic Consultation]] which you cast with the black mana from blood pet with the Oracle ETB trigger on the stack.
Yeah, sultai rector-less pattern rector for the win. If I’ve ever come up with jank, this is it ๐
Is there a "perfect" set of three cards for Emergent Ultimatum?
[[Emergent Ultimatum]] What I mean is this: Everyone can name the odd two card combo that wins the game by going infinite or whatever it happens to be, but is there any set of three monocoloured cards, any two of which in combination win the game on th…

/u/bboomslang on Power Level Wednesday!: Ask r/EDH what’s your deck’s power level? – April 22, 2020
http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/nicol-bolas-jank-lord/
Commander: [[Nicol Bolas, the Ravager]]
It is a mostly standard Grixis shell taken from competetive grixis lists that run top-heavy spells (like grixis turns lists). It wants to win with [[Nicol Bolas, Dragon God]]’s ultimate. It utilizes infinit mana combos, preferably [[Barrin, Master Wizard]] and [[Dockside Extortionist]], or [[Ghostly Flicker]] and Dockside. It utilizes the infinit mana to dig into the deck via spells like [[Illusionist’s Stratagem]] or our commander to find the missing pieces. Best case scenario is to go for [[Planar Bridge]], tutor mutiple times for the Bolas planeswalkers, nuke opponents boards with [[Nicol Bolas, God-Pharao]] and ultimate the Dragon God for the win.
It clearly is jank, but what tier of jank?
The shells, as said, is oriented along the lines of other efficient grixis shells, which is the reason for expensive rocks and the probably weird looking mana base with only 31 lands (for cedh, that’s more on the higher number).
So marrying a competetive shell with a janky wincon – what does that make? ๐
/u/bboomslang on OPPORTUNITY FOR EVERY VORTHOS PLAYER HERE
Jhoira and Teferi fit in nicely into the story, to, both being students at that time and being directly involved, Jhoira even being friends with K’rrik for some time.
/u/bboomslang on Flash Ban Megathread
yes, I totally agree, but I just doubt that WOTC or Hasbro actually invest there. And I especially doubt someone from the RC invests there instead of just giving numbers they grabbed from thin air.
So I am not rejecting the fact that it can be done, I just doubt the assumption that it actually is done in any way relevant to distinguish casual vs competetive EDH.
They totally have data driven decisions for other formats and the health of other formats that are tournament result based. They have a wealth of data there from MTGO, Arena and paper event results. It’s just not there for cEDH vs casual EDH and I strongly doubt they invest there just to clarify how big the cEDH movement is ๐
/u/bboomslang on Flash Ban Megathread

/u/bboomslang on Is there any reason to use products like the Quiver or the Superhive other than to reduce wear on deckboxes?
I got me the Quiver when I went to MF Bologna, because I thought it is easier to carry than a backpack. I also have the Ultimate Guard Ammonite Backpack now, but actually I prefer the Quiver if I just want to have a selection of decks on me. It’s easy to carry, doesn’t take up lots of space and is not as bulky as the Ammonite. Grabbing decks without rummaging through the backpack blind is nice ๐ – and it forces me to be selective, because it only holds 5 EDH decks.
And come on, you have to agree, that thing has style ๐
