/u/bboomslang on Hero Realms – "Back us for the resale value of the promo cards."

What made me drop out in addition to the costs was that they said they won’t have play through visa of the campaign at all, since none of it was in presentable form. I will just wait for retail and see what comes up in reviews, then.

Well, both series could work with alt-history additions, be it near-future stuff for the Modern Warfighter or Dieselpunk gear for WWII warfighter. I think both are valid targets and both would provide something that is missing from th…

Diesel punk would be a reasonable add on to WW2 Warfighter.

Don you M1 Ranger or Mk2 Stalward or PzKpl Jäger suit, bolt on the standard WW2 weapons or something more exotic and away you go!

The Hostiles would have more heavier and/or exotic units.

Of course there too could be Cthulu and Hydes and machine-animal hybrids and….

/u/bboomslang on How many games in your collection have you not played?

about 30 of 130 unplayed, but some of them are stinkers or bores that went straight to the trade pile after I took a deeper look at them (maybe about 10) and the others are in part monster games or heavies that will need some preparation or at least a bigger time ivenstment to get to the table. I try to get everything to the table sooner or later, but some of the boxes are clearly in the “later” category by now.

Yes, but a good solo option, I don’t think, should be solvable. Thinking of the current variables in Cry (again, just these past 10 minutes at 6 am), it’s tough to make it more than a one time “I figured it out” puzzle.

Actually Hoplomachus: Origins does this in a way with it’s solo trials: a list of situations you set up that all can be “solved” by optimal choices from the players, but enriched with randomness on the part of the puzzle pieces. I think it works really well in a game that is battle oriented.

Another option could be what Conflict of Heroes: Eastern Front – Solo Expansion – or in a kinda similar, but maybe more limited, way Night of Man – does, by providing a set of reaction cards that drive the enemy in a randomized, but not totally random way. The decks provide a kinda goal-driven behaviour. In a way those can be compared to the Automa in Scythe, too.

/u/bboomslang on Board games on Android?

Yeah, Twilight Struggle would be rad! The perfect game to play sunday morning in bed before breakfast! I didn’t know about Baseball Highlights, will have to take a look at that one, it got quite good reviews. For other deckbuilds, Star Realms and Ascension are both fun to play on android. And well, Pathfinder Adventure Card Game is much more fun to play if you don’t have to go through all the card types every time you set up locations. Same with Sentinels of the Multiverse and the damage tracking. Both games (PACG and SotM) are IMO more fun to play on a computer due to the high “maintenance rate” of setup (for PACG) and keeping track (for SotM).

/u/bboomslang on What games would be/were instant buys for you?

Everything coming out for LOTR:LCG that contains player cards. I just want more cards to build my decks with, the more the merrier. It is my guilty obsession to build decks for LOTR:LCG and – due to it’s great solo playability – those actually get played unlike my MTG decks …

Other than that, if you want to tempt me, ingrain your game with science. Leaving Earth was very tempting, but the horrible high shipping costs drove me away, until I found a group preorder that lowered that barrier. Stuff from Phil Eklund always tempts me, whatever the actual theme. And board games based on historic events will draw me in right away and trigger my “want it!” reflexes. Which makes a big pile of cosims really dangerous. I am not too much into the nitty-gritty-detailed war games, but if it is something crossing the border from war game to euro, I am doomed.

well, and if there are mechs in your game. I really have a hard time to stay away from games with mechs. Luckily DVGs Valkyrie didn’t make it on Kickstarter and they haven’t talked about it for ages, so I am safe from that one. But Night of Man just snuck in under my protective shield. I mean, mechs AND hovercars? How could I withstand?
