Can vouch for Wir sind das Volk being a god game of two hours length. It has some specifics wit regards to game feel, though, that makes it a bit different from TS. It feels more like a economic simulation than a political struggle to me, due to the high focus on economic factors for the Western Germany player and the interactions feel more like petty kicks to the shin than big global struggles for power. But then all of that is perfectly embedded in its theme, Germany rivalry during the cold war was mostly “petty kicks to the shin”. Scope of the theme is smaller and you feel it in play, but that play still is great.

Vanish from Sight is interesting – my two-hero outlands deck will be happy. Rod of the Steward could be nice, too, to get to key outlands faster.

but player decks are still reusing art and from the BGG discussion it didn’t sound like that will change. And quite frankly, that was the second thing that put me off: the way Fred Hicks presented himself there.

One thing that puts me off is same art for different cards. That just is a bad idea. Yeah, sure, in your hand you don’t see the art, but cards on the table will be highly irritating with same art.

/u/bboomslang on COIN fans! Express your excitement for imminent arrival of Falling Sky, A Distant Plain, and Cuba Libre here!
Cuba Libre and Liberty or Death are already on my shelf, but I look forward to Falling Sky and later Pendragon. The COIN Ancient stuff is really what I want, thematically. But CL is great, too. LoD I haven’t yet played, but it looks great. I just need the main table for a few hours for myself to get it out 😉

/u/bboomslang on Do you read any making of, or history of the theme material if they come in rulebooks?
Yep, enjoying those greatly. Especialy with CoSims I think they are an absolute must, meaning I would skip a game if it comes without them. I want to know what the developer was trying to simulate with which mechanics and things like that.
And hey, that way I can cheat games in as “interactive history books” when my wife complains about me buying “yet another game” 😉
