/u/bboomslang on Games that got your SO into boardgames?

My SO first just played when we were with friends (Legends of Andor for example), but after a while we started with some games we just play together. The one that totally hooked her was Progress: Evolution of Technology, because actions in that game (d…

[Kickstarter] Santorini is live!

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/roxley/santorini-learn-it-in-30-seconds-play-it-for-life?ref=discovery

One of my favorite pure-strategy games is getting an actual, full release (hopefully). I’m just finishing making a custom acrylic minimalist board for it, but have also backed their kickstarter. Within about 24 hours of being released, they’re already funded. I know there are other people like me who don’t have social media or twitter, and who may miss out on hearing about these more ‘niche’ releases. For those in the US, $53 will be pledged for the base game, the stretch goals and shipping included. In CAD, it’s about $70.

  International Price Groups:
* For Toronto: ~$49CAD inc ship (https://boardgamegeek.com/thread/1550201/greater-toronto-area-group-buy-ks-10-now)
* For BENELUX: ~30,75Euro inc ship (https://boardgamegeek.com/article/22231159#22231159)
* For Italy/Spain: ~$40USD inc ship (https://boardgamegeek.com/thread/1550219/italianspanish-group-order)
* For Germany: ~34,25Euro inc ship (https://boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/182771/item/4541075#item4541075)
* For Brisbane/AU: ~$56AUD inc ship (https://boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/156729/item/4541815#item4541815)

If you’re looking for a runthrough, Rahdo has done one (which is linked on the KS page). But, I can assure you the game is very simple to learn! It’s a great strategic and tactical game that is not stressful or sabotage-y (though there are extra powers/cards that allow you more direct interaction if that is your thing). It’s a modular game that builds both out and up, and this release has some great components (though many of the older fans preferred the original, more minimalist version of the game). It has been playtested for years (original release was 2004). Either way, if you’re in the mood for an excellent pure-strategy that is seriously simple to learn but has much depth, check out Santorini! (I don’t work for/with/under/on/near anyone on the team, nor do I even know who they are outside of name. I just really enjoy their game and have for years).

OK guys, I am staying in the Seattle area (Bellevue to be exact) the week from April 4th. I know about Mox Boarding House and Uncle's Games there – other good board game stores in Bellevue I should visit? I am especially interested in places with good selection in war games, stuff from GMT, VPG, […]

Our 100th game of Progress: Evolution of Technology. Solid win for me with 57:40. I got tempo early on and my wife could not Counter – especially the 3rd age was quite short. We always play with 4th age and leaders. Still lots of fun and our favorite after so many games. (View on Google+)

/u/bboomslang on [WSIG] Euro with a GOOD THEME

I have played Trickerion and it is great. The theme works and the game is crunchy. It has multiple levels of complexity, so you can ease in on your own speed. The basic rules isn’t exactly gateway material, it is a bit above, but should be doable with newer people, too. And it looks and feels great, componentwise.

/u/bboomslang on The worst part about boardgaming as a hobby…

Actually most of the older COIN titles will be reprinted this year, regardless of preorders. And all of them are great solo, so you don’t need to convince anybody 😉

I think Cuba Libre is the first one to come and will be out in summer. It is especially great for solo, because it has the simplest structure of the system so far.

Oh, and two new ones will come this year, too, one in April probably, Falling Sky will take you to Caesar and Gaul.

Don’t cry. Except over all the money that will be gone 😉 (I have Pendragon and Falling Sky on preorder and am wondering if I should get the Algier two player COIN, too)

A Glorious Chance: The Naval Struggle for Lake Ontario, 1813

Up for preorders at Legion Wargames. I am the designer of this solitaire, operational age-of-sail game about the War of 1812 on the Great Lakes. There’s lots of advance content about the game online, if you want to entertain yourself or decide whether to preorder. Rather than repost that content here, I’ll list some content links below. Use this thread to discuss the game and ask me questions!

Game page on Boardgamegeek

On the BGG game page, you can not only find discussion threads about the game, but also a PDF of the rules, screenshots, AARs by playtesters, my own development blog, and a bibliography.

Game page on Consimworld forum

The game page on CSW forum is mostly discussion, but in the header you can also find links to the rules and bibliography.

Free demo on Tabletopia

There’s a demo of the US solo campaign on the 3D boardgaming app, Tabletopia. I set up a public room where you can take a closer look at the components, and even see what it’s like to play the game in that environment.

Videos: Development of the game has continued since I posted these videos a few months ago, but watching them will certainly give you a detailed look at the gameplay to see if it’s for you:
