/u/bboomslang on [C18] all 4 face commanders got leaked

Saheeli sounds interesting for a heavy-artifact deck, as right the turn she comes out you can drop some fatty to protect her for cheap. Or to beat face. So in 1v1 she could really be a nice way to get Blightsteel out very quickly, especially if you run a competetive rock suite. And it doesn’t work only for artifacts, so you could even use her to get Omniscience out earlier. So her as the commander and new Jhoira as one of the 99 could be fun. Cost reduction in the command zone has shown to be interesting before.

It could even make high-cost commanders like P ogenitus viable. Just build your deck to get this out fast to get a point of damage in and drop Progenitors on the board without bothering for 5 colors first.

/u/bboomslang on If you could add any color to any commander, which color and commander would you choose?

Blue to Daretti, so his one weakness (bad card selection) would get much better. Sorry, Jhoira, but a UR Daretti would be a much better Artifact commander.

/u/bboomslang on How important is solo play to you when buying board games?

Same here – no solo, you have to be really amazing for me to buy. I do make exceptions for games I know will go down well on game night, but otherwise a solid solo mode is a must for me. I might only use it to get a feel of the game before teaching, or…

/u/bboomslang on [M19] Nicol Bolas, the Ravager

The ETB with ghostly flicker and archaeomancer or chronomancer or the likes out can be tons of fun, too. It goes wide, so you can soften up the table before going one-on-one with his Planeswalker side. And that way he stays relevant, even if you still need to build up his flip mana. He definitely isn’t a do-nothing commander, I really like him.

Preparing with discard to get the god pharaoh in graveyard, the flip and reanimate, that would be hilarious fun. Or get Tezzeret the Seeker and another Bolas in, have rings of Brighthearth, the flip, reanimate two, grab chain veil and trigger all three walkers again, use Tezzeret to Untap chain veil and do it again? Just need Infinite Mana First, easy to do in Grixis colors.

Ah, magic Christmas land.

/u/bboomslang on What the actual hell

There would be a simple solution to help formats relying on RL cards and still keep the RL: make a rule for sanctioned events that every RL cars can be proxies legally in tournaments. Doesn’t break the RL promise but still allows the formats to live on. And would allow shops to actually run tournaments with attendance.

/u/bboomslang on Do you play games on week days or weekends typically?

Weekly board game meeting for our area of the city, organized by my wife and I. So, weekly and weekdays. Additionally we often play on weekends, for example at the restaurant or at home, too. So rarely a week without some gaming.

/u/bboomslang on How many people are in your play group typically?

I’m doing quite a bit of solo play, but my main play partner is my wife and we have some games we carry with us when out and about – waiting for food at the restaurant is perfect for The Duke or Red 7. We have an open boardgame meeting every week, so we get bigger groups, too. Sometimes we do plays with 6-7 people (usually drafting games like 7 Wonders or Between two Cities and sometimes some Codenames), but more often when we are at 7-9 players we play in two groups. Easier to teach new games when there are only 2-3 new players in a group. Our main goal in the meeting is to actually teach new games to people, so there is a regular turnover of games at the table, usually one easier one that people know and one new thing. But I like when we play in a bigger group every now and then, it is hilariously chaotic.

/u/bboomslang on Itโ€™s Friday!!!๐ŸŽ‰๐ŸŽ‰๐ŸŽ‰ What are you looking forward to playing and why? (6/1/18 edition)

Finally got my copy of One Deck Dungeon: Forest of whatnot out on the table. Good weather, so I could play on the balcony – needed for the smelly plastic cards. Damn, they really got the poison theme going ๐Ÿ˜‰ – gamewise a fun little minimized rogue-like (at least it feels closest to that for me from the games I played in that genre). Not too thinks, just a fun dice chucker with some fun theme. If the weather stays good, it will see more play for sure. The Wars of Marcus Aurelius sadly didn’t find time, which I hoped to break out this weekend, too. Oh well, more weekends to come.

I think it can be interesting in 1v1 to cheat in an early Ugin. That is one of the planeswalkers that really dpes some work in 1v1 by blowing up boards. So I could see it in something UWx as a safety valve and to get a value PW like Tez in Esper maybe.

/u/bboomslang on An idea for Grixis Death’s Shadow

Well, I am a delver man, so peek at the top of your deck with delayed or decoupled draw is something I have experience with and it is damn solid. Makes Fetches that much better. And instant speed draw with opt or scour and an uncracked bauble on enemy turn can be fun, too. It still irks me that snappy doesn’t synergize with them, but I currently run only 3 of them anyway, so I think that shouldn’t be a big deal.
