I love the golden ages, but I think some parts are a bit limited if you look at it with the 4x perspective – there is no real epic feel especially to the exterminate and explore parts. It does very well if you just go for “civ builder in 2 hours”, though. It is – to me – more akin to Scythe and other civ-like euro games. As said, I love to play it, but I think someone explicitly asking for a 4X best-of game might feel that it is a bit lacking.

/u/bboomslang on What are the most effective answers to Hexproof creatures like Slippery Bogle in Azorius colors?
[[Curfew]] is a good cheap edict when a hexproof creature makes it past your defenses and it usually works well with blink/reuse themes. [[Circle of protection: green]] can shut down quite a bit of the deck if you have the mana to spend. [[Dawn Charm]]…
/u/bboomslang on What is your favorite deck and why is it your favorite?
While I don’t play it myself, it is by far my favorite deck to play against. I feel like the games are allways interesting, with cool stuff going on. Sure, there is the “oops, I win” with tokens and boost, but it is far less annoying than the corresponding part with hexproof (probably my least favorite deck to play against). It just makes for very interesting games.

It is one in my gauntlet, but I really dislike how – despite running crop rotation and expedition maps – far too often it doesn’t assemble tron on time. I moved back to a more murasa tron like build where I can just stumble into tron but am not too dependent on it to be there. But still, while a fun deck, I allways feel like I put too much cards in for having it work than for actual answers or threats. I guess I just like controlly aggro or hard control much more than big mana.
/u/bboomslang on What is your favorite deck and why is it your favorite?
This is my number two after UR delver. I just love it when my opponent starts to ask “resolves?” with every card they play. And with UB teachings, they don’t just have to worry if it resolves, but have to worry if it stays, too. I named mine lovingly “fuck you, bogles” because I out it together after being beaten by bogles once too often.

I’m in the same boat, really love that deck. Especially the epic comebacks you can have with ut by hitting a late game gush. One game my opponent was desperately digging for a bolt or blast to finish me, whike I was in top deck mide, but hitting a gush and grabbed sime digging spells and getting some counters back to my hand brought me back into the game. Really fun deck, enjoy playing it a ton.

For me definitely one of the best games released lately. Very smooth game play and great components. Ok, the minis took the word “mini” a bit to extremes, but I don’t care, I use the standees anyway. And yes, setup and teardown are re…

remember that only in a two player game you do get three gangsters. In all other counts only two are used.

Still undecided, so for now only Acolyte (with windwalker) is sure. Maybe adding opener as another faction and maybe Brown Jenkin and Dire Azatoth, sice I expect those to be hard to get later (and shamelessly planning on selling them …

/u/bboomslang on [C17] Sol Ring
I think C17 is meant to be on MTGO, too at least I read it I think here on reddit. which obviously doesn’t mean anything definitive, of course. And I seem to remember the first precons where, too, but that might be a misremembering. But even if they never ever hit MTGO, it still is weird to put cards in they deem to brojen for playing with.
/u/bboomslang on [C17] Sol Ring
well, with C17 hitting MTGO, this will be fun to watch people not being able to play their precon 1v1, because sol ring is banned there.

/u/bboomslang on Concordia, what do you like? Dislike?
For two players, get Salsa with its smaller map, or the Britannica or even Corsica map. Makes it much tighter. I went with Britannica and am very happy with playing it two player.
/u/bboomslang on Concordia, what do you like? Dislike?
I really enjoy it and more importantly: my wife does, too. So it actually, gets a chance to hit the table. The end scoring being a bit obtuse was already mentioned by others, so the only thing I would like to add (and what prevents it from getting an even higher rating from me) is that the advanced cards you buy are mostly the same stuff you have. Sure, there are some differences, but still, it feels samey, I would have liked some more different ones in there. But that doesn’t keep me from enjoying the game at all.

/u/bboomslang on What are the eurogames with highest player interaction?
well, yes. The effect in The Godfather is that you lose control over a worker spot or lose control over the area end of round (especially the latter with car bomb where you wipe out all of a family in an area). Since that control is what allows preparation of multi-same-ressource jobs (since otherwise you usually have a hard time to come by 3 same ressources), which are usually the ones with most impact on other players, this is quite some mean – it can make or break one of those plans.
Not saying that The Godfather is the ends-all of interactive or mean. By far not, quite a bunch of COIN games are much more interactive in what you do, since all actions will allways directly impact other players, but I’m saying that I fail to see where Carson City is more interactive or more mean than a game where you take out area control with one job, possibly robbing them of some large amount of end-game VPs, or directly grabbing three money cards from their coffers, which is directly taking VPs from another player (with right timing this can be as high as 15 VPs). But well, each to their own, if someone finds Carson City mean, so be it. I just found it amusing to be blasted with “you haven’t played many” and then reading about Carson City 😉

/u/bboomslang on What are the eurogames with highest player interaction?
Pray tell how Carson City – a game of city building cute cowboys with silly hats – is more interactive and more mean than The Godfather. Don’t tell me about the worker shootouts when you want a worker place that is taken. Killing other players workers is just one of many things you regularily do in The Godfather.

we have our pure human faction that doesn’t connect with a GOO – the ancients. They are just sadist and fascist, but hey, humans that can stand up to GOOs. Well, there are the Tch Tcho, too, but I have my doubts about the human part 😉
/u/bboomslang on What are the eurogames with highest player interaction?
Just recently came out: The Godfathr: Corleone’s Empire by Eric Lang. In my collection by far the meanest and most interactive worker placement cum area control cum set collection game.

Probably because the components are ok, the gameplay is good, the theme is not godfather but mobster and works fine and the game is no disappointment but a lot of fun?
