I actually won a game against my wife where I was missing most ressources, whereas she got lots of them, by just going yellow buildings and building up tons of money by discarding cards. Another game my wife won against me with a mili…

/u/bboomslang on (Ultra) Tiny Epic Kingdoms

TEK is fun, but you have to realize that it is not really a civ game, but a points race. First to achieve one of the victory conditions wins. It is much tighter than it looks, there is not much time to roam the lands and build up, you more or less have to start to hunt for win conditions with the first turn. I think the main problem there is that activities in TEK are more or less deterministic – there is nothing keeping someone back, nothing throwing obstacles in the way of players.

TEG gave me a much more civ-like feel where I actually build up and grab opportunities, where the dice will screw you every now and then and break your plans, but not so much that you actually start to hate the dice (like I do with Cosmic Run, for example).

TEK still is a good game, it’s just that I felt it was a bit lacking after having TEG to compare it to. Still, at the price point of UTEK (and the size) it should be a great travel game choice.

/u/bboomslang on [WSIG] Euro with a GOOD THEME

I have played Trickerion and it is great. The theme works and the game is crunchy. It has multiple levels of complexity, so you can ease in on your own speed. The basic rules isn’t exactly gateway material, it is a bit above, but should be doable with newer people, too. And it looks and feels great, componentwise.

/u/bboomslang on The worst part about boardgaming as a hobby…

Actually most of the older COIN titles will be reprinted this year, regardless of preorders. And all of them are great solo, so you don’t need to convince anybody 😉

I think Cuba Libre is the first one to come and will be out in summer. It is especially great for solo, because it has the simplest structure of the system so far.

Oh, and two new ones will come this year, too, one in April probably, Falling Sky will take you to Caesar and Gaul.

Don’t cry. Except over all the money that will be gone 😉 (I have Pendragon and Falling Sky on preorder and am wondering if I should get the Algier two player COIN, too)

/u/bboomslang on [WSIG] Is Legends of Andor Right for Me?

Yeah, you totally can only play Pandemic once, because you would pay the same scenario over and over … Legends of Andor has quite good replayability with the modular scenarios. Replaying them is totally possible, as much as with any other co-op with …

/u/bboomslang on [total noob] Is any Arwen-related card in the Core Set?

It is even better because Hero Arwen produces ressources that Aragorn can directly use for readying. Throw in Beravor from the core for card draw and you should have a solid team.

well, 1800 years is quick, isn’t it? 😉

Luckily it has a turn resolution of 100 years and those 1800 years are compressed into 18 turns and those go quick, so you are done in about an hour.
