Looks great. I think I might give this a run (with slight modifications, since I don’t have two base sets), I love aggro decks and am currently working on a mono-tactics one where I run the ents, too – they are a fun bunch that can he…

Oh, must habe missed that in the rules. Oh well, I lost anyway, so no harm done.
bboomslang on What is your BEST board game purchase of 2014?
Lots of good buys for me, especially anything LOTR LCG, because that remains my favourite solitaire time waster, but best buys gp to **Valley of the Kings** at Essen 2014 and **Waggledance** that I received from the kick starter. Both because they are …
bboomslang on Robinson Crusoe rules question–shelter, roofs, and palisades
Shelter icons in tiles are only important before you have a man made shelter – you need one anyway for the roof and palisade, but you can delay that if you have natural shelter for example during first round in the first mission where you don’t roll we…

bboomslang on What expansions do you think ruin the core game?
yeah, looks like the rules in the german boxes are a bit different. It looks like the base game is already a mix of parts of the original “republic” expansion and parts of the base game – http://boardgamegeek.com/thread/786891/already-included-german-lookout-edition – and the actual german republic expansion bringing some changes that were originally in the base game and some of the original republic stuff or something like that. In short: the situation with regards to language versions of glory to rome and its expansion is as convoluted and twisted as it’s original rule book 😉

Well, my mono-Tactics currently runs Legolas, Mablung and Hama, and it works quite well – even got it to win the Fords of the Isen quest. It is a ton of fun to play, at least if you like the more aggro style of tactics.I run most of t…
bboomslang on What expansions do you think ruin the core game?
but aren’t those rule changes all optional, even on the rule card? The “need 3 instead of 2” is tied to some alternative card, I think, so only if you use that alternative card will you change that rule. The main body of Republic is just a pile of additional buildings. Plus some additional alternative cards where you can decide for each card if you want to swap it in or not (same as with the core that already included a bunch of alternatives). I don’t have the original version or black box, though, only the german version, so don’t know if there are some things different between those versions – I did notice when I watched rahdo’s runthrough of Glory of Rome, that some things were indeed different in his version from mine.

Well, even if you go for valour, you want threat reduction to not threat out – which becvomes even more of a problem if you do play with valour, because you are constantly close to your threat limit. For me this card will enable to swa…
bboomslang on What expansions do you think ruin the core game?
or actually Catan and Carcassonne are the exception and the norm is that expansions don’t ruin games. (And really, I fail to see how Knights&Cities ruins Catan)

yay! Threat reduction for tactics! Woot! Need more exclamation marks!
bboomslang on What expansions do you think ruin the core game?
hmm, that “exception” probably includes all mission/scenario based games, because expansions add more missions or scenarios, which I have a hard time seeing as game-ruining expansions. Same for games with factions and faction-adding expansions. Or would you really call expansions for Smash Up!, Gears of War, Sentinels of the Multiverse, Legends of Andor, Pathfinder ACG, any LCG that was ever printed all game-ruining? 😉
bboomslang on What expansions do you think ruin the core game?
I might agree that it doesn’t seem necessary and only adds more of the same – but how does it ruin the game, which is OPs question?
bboomslang on Any good Kickstarter projects currently open?
well, rahdo called it devourer of tables, so I am scared for mine. I like my table.
bboomslang on What are your favorite Smash Up faction combinations, and what makes them great?
Steampunk-Robots. Because they belong together like applepie and cream 😉
bboomslang on What are your favorite co-op board games?
I throw **Legends of Andor** in the ring for a euro-ish fantasy explore-and-fight coop game. And **Forbidden Desert** as an easier gateway coop. And maybe **Runeage** as a does-it-all-even-coop deckbuilder option. A personal favorite of mine – **Gears …
bboomslang on What’s the longest you’ve owned a game without playing it (that you eventually played and LOVED)?
only unplayed games I have are still unplayed, so I can only expect them to be great but don’t know for sure, yet. Main reason for being unplayed is setup and play time – the main offenders here being Mage Knight, Space Empire 4x and Thunderbolt Apache…
bboomslang on What did you play this week (Feb 2 – Feb 8)?

bboomslang on How many games do you own?
BGG tells me 38, with 6 preorders or kickstarters in the queue. yikes! luckily only a few where I go nuts with expansions (mistly SotM and LOTR LCG).
bboomslang on What did you play this week (Feb 2 – Feb 8)?
**Legends of Andor** hit the table again, legend 5, the one woth the dragon. Lets just say we got even with the dragon. And who needs castles anyway. Oh, and the guys brought me the travel to the nirth expansion, so we are prepared for man months to come. **Waggledance** continues to go strong here, even a four player after killing the dragon went great. Totally love that game. **Lord of the rings LCG** got some more play, all solo – my wife isn’t into fantasy – and I tried a mono-tactics eagle-ent deck with legolas. Well, it was a bit depressing when an invisible bunch of dunlanders wiped out my whole board just because the time ran out on stage 2B when I had 4 cards I couldn’t play on hand … **Robinson Crusoe Adventure on cursed Island** hit the table for the first time and the first mission. Ok, a few more bones on that island of dead people won’t be a problem, right? Good thing: wife likes the theme and can relate to the actions you do during play, so a few solo plays to make sure I can run it smoothly and I think she will join in. **Sentinels of the Multiverse** is one of the few where I count the app fully as “played the game”, because the app only automates the deck drawing and modifier tracking, but since the “AI” is in the villain and environment deck, it is the full experience, just less fiddly. And the latest expansion brings me Unity. Yay! So it got quite a few plays. So, yeah, busy week for me. Ok, with a little cheating, since Legends was on Sunday 1st 😉 Never played stock games and doubt I ever will, unless they invent one where you buy/sell stocks in monsters or have super heroes punch the market 😉 I have only a few 3/4x games – TEK for example, whuch I like quite a bit and hope to bring to the table again, and Space Empires 4x whuch is yet still unplayed, but queued for one of those days with lots of rain and my wife off to meet with her friends.
bboomslang on What are some games or types of games you wish you could play but can’t because you don’t have the group for it?
any fantasy or scifi one-on-one games – my wife just never connects to those themes and can’t really relate to game mechanics if they are tied to themes that don’t make sense for her and my group is 3-4 players, so any duel games are out.
