linkme: Ascension, Star Realms, San Juan, Sentinels of the Multiverse, Hearthstone yeah, I am a card freak. Too bad that some of them are only for tablet (hearthstone and sentinels for example)

well, it is a 2-player-only game. You can’t solo it. Wether you enjoy it is only one part of the equation – how are the chances you can have some other player enjoy it with you? If those chances are slim, go max for one of the base packs and try it out…

bboomslang on Sleeving encounter cards

Well, there is no risk in sleeving them per cycle, but some of the adventures have encounter cards that go into your players deck (voice of isengart for example has that in the second scenario), which means those cards will have to be sleeved the same …

Wow, I didn’t know about this one so far. From descriptions and what I can find on BGG it looks totally up my desires – since it looks very well built for solo plays. And a mechanical war game without direct linkage to real life wars is much more to my…

bboomslang on Name some awesome, inexpensive boardgames

Well, as with Dominion, there are some easily spotted strategies, but I think as with Dominion, those aren’t necessarily the fastest, so can be countered. It is a bit more random, though, so you can’t guarantee to follow a strategy like you can with Do…

bboomslang on What did you play this week (Jan 5 – Jan 11)?

Finally got some time to get in plays with **Gears of War** – whenever I play it, I think “damn, solid mechanics, I should play it again” – and then don’t do for quite some time due to the longish setup time. But this time I went in pure solo with Markus Fenix, I think for soloing this might be a smoother experience, even though I miss out on some of the interactions (following and reviving mainly). And as almost every week I got in some **LOTR LCG** plays. Oh, and finally got to sit down with my wife and play **Forbidden Desert**, and she liked it. So looks like we got another option for spending rainy weekend afternoons when we don’t want to go outside. Fun game, very relaxing and not too brain-burny, but can be ramped up if needed. And it just looks good on the table. Favorite game reviewers: rooting for Rahdo’s rambling run throughs 😉 and for solo experiences the lonsome gamer and box of delights. Tom Vasel for quick orientations and Drive Thru Reviews and Board Game Brawl for more indepth reviews as alternatives to rahdo. Oh, and BGB for it’s coverage of totally obscure japanese card games, of course. And buying new games: 1-3 per month, if you count things like LOTR LCG expansions (am in the process of building up my collection on LOTR LCG player cards – yeah, I am doomed). Full board games not as much, due to limited space I allow myself for the games. Probably 4-6 per year? Last year was a bit unusual in that I went on a KS binge, but I am recovering from that 😉

bboomslang on Fun Two Player Games for a trip

My wife isn’t a heavy gamer and lately **Valley of the Kings** was our travel game of choice and I think it succeeded very well in that. Before that it was a base box of **Ascension** in a deckbox for two magic 100-card decks (there is a nice double-10…
