/u/bboomslang on Give me your personal cEDH "dark-horse" commanders

Teshar and Ashaya would it be for me, both are not too common and when people don’t know about the many interactions of their cards, they can sneak in for a win. Both have high redundancy in combo pieces, too, and for their combo pieces at least a dece…

/u/bboomslang on After 1.5 months, where are we with Lithoform Engine?

It is great for Golos "big splashy spells" – you either double up his tutor for lands, his activation, or any of the spells you cast with him, to double up the value.

Yeah, I can see the suspend cards being better in a Citadel list. But are there any current Citadel lists in cEDH? I do run one in casual, but haven’t seen it in cEDH lists lately.

yeah, “current turn + 3 more” isn’t what I call fast at all. For a one-shot mana burst that you have to plan three turns ahead of time – nope. In some cases you could cascade into it or stuff like that, if your decks falls that way, then it might be ok (similar as Electrodominance makes Wheel of Fate kinda fringe playable).

In what I see as the current top decks, I would say it is far too slow.

/u/bboomslang on Deckbox.com update?

well, they still only use their own pricing engine (with merged prices from Amazon, I think), so their single prices are bonkers and so you can’t really use them to value your collection or your deck. Other than that, it is quite ok, but I still prefer Moxfield, because the statistics are really limited on deckbox. And it just doesn’t look as spiffy as the competition. I still use it to track my collection, though, because it is the most complete solution for that – even obscure sets and supplemental products can be selected for printings.

/u/bboomslang on Dargo and Malcolm, Pirate Storm cEDH

Ya know, I love the options that Commander Legends opened – who would have thought a pirate storm build could be a viable cEDH deck before? I totally look forward to the silly brews coming out of this all.

Dargo and Malcolm, Pirate Storm cEDH

I think this might be at a point where i am not constantly brewing on it, and have reached a level of viability i think i could be happy with. As any list, this is a work in progress, so feel free to suggest any and all things! Without further a do, i present to you:

Dargo and Malcolm, a Pirate Storm cEDH list!

https://www.moxfield.com/decks/ym2qaElL0kWicUPJ6aPQiA

Primer:

The goal is to storm out with Dargo by sacrificing Treasures to bring down his casting cost and then Dargo himself to Phyrexian Altar for the Red we need to cast him again.

To do this we need to get Phyrexian Altar out quick and along the way create treasures through Malcolm and our Izzet pirate package.

Outlets for Drago’s storm includes Brain Freeze and Grapeshot.

If for some reason this line is obstructed we can go for infinite damage with Lightning Rig Crew, Freed from the Real and Malcolm pinging the table down. Glint-Horn Bucaneer also goes infinite with Malcolm.

There is also the option of generating infinite treasures with Dockside and Cloudstone Curio, our outlet for this is Spectral Sailor or Glint-Horn Buccaneer

If all that fails we also run Underworld Breach, LED, Wheel shenanigans. Mostly the breach will recur our Altar, but sometimes it will be a brainfreeze win through LED and Wheel of Fortune

Ways to get at the Phyrexian Altar:

Gamble (although that’s a gamble)

Transmute Artifact

Goblin Engineer

Reshape

Drift of Phantasms

Ways to get at our storm outlets:

Gamble (although that’s a gamble)

Muddle the Mixture

Merchant Scroll

Mystical Tutor

Spellseeker

(Drift of Phantasms can get Freed from the Real in a pinch)

Examples of Intuition piles:

Goblin Engineer, Goblin Welder, Phyrexian Altar

Goblin Engineer, Goblin Welder, LED

Grapeshot, Brain Freeze, Freed from the Real

Grapeshot, Brain Freeze, Glint-Horn Buccaneer

Shout out to Janus for reminding me about cEDH staples, and to the Dargo Discord (https://discord.gg/eQF4dxuXEV) for usefull tips.

So since this sac’s as part of the cost, it will see itself in the GY when the activation goes on the stack? It can return itself? If yes, that would make it a repeatable cascade for 8 mana.

Edit: misread it as returning something from the GY to your hand, not the battlefield, my bad.

/u/bboomslang on Should things like Winter/Static Orb be banned?

dude, if you leave important parts out, don’t expect valid answers! if you build omnath abominations, fight through the stax and don’t complain. Suggest your Urza playing friend to also look at Mana Web, Tanglewire and others …

/u/bboomslang on Should things like Winter/Static Orb be banned?

In that case just tell him that those two orbs in casual play groups just plain suck. Usually people get the point. I myself often have “sideboards” in my casual decks that make them a little less casual, for those situations where I need that little bit more oomph. So maybe that’s a way for him to go, leaving them out most games, but bringing them in every now and then, when he had a bad streak or faces some abomination himself.

/u/bboomslang on Should things like Winter/Static Orb be banned?

If your pal is playing Urza and Winter / Static Orb, have a sit down with them and have a serious talk, because Urza + Orbs tends to at least scratch cEDH terrain – it might just be plain too nasty for your table.

On the other hand, Omnath as a green commander has access to a lot of the very best artifact removal – even free ones, like Force of Vigor. So Omnath – even if it is the mono green one – is quite prepared to take on Urza, if it is a more casual build (but casual build and orbs don’t usually mesh that well).

So, yeah, have a sit down and talk sounds like the more correct approach, because playing a tuned Urza at a casual table is just pubstomping.

We’re back with another video essay. This one’s about Commander, proxies, and class. We hope you enjoy it and that it inspires some charitable and productive conversations here and among your playgroups. Thanks for your attention, and I hope you’re having a good day.
